Assisting Peer Recovery Support Specialists in Having Meaningful Conversations with the People They Serve About Privacy

Free Virtual Skills Training for Peer Workers

Wednesday July 30, 2025 — 2:00pm – 3:30pm EDT

This event card is for the July 30 session. You can register for the August 20 session here.

Peer Recovery Support Specialists have a unique role in assisting individuals through the recovery process, through shared lived-experience. Peers help people become, and stay engaged, in the recovery process and reduce the likelihood of reoccurrence.

The CoE-PHI is facilitating two 90-minute virtual training workshops that will assist peers in preparing for having meaningful and informed conversations with their clients around concepts of privacy and navigating decisions about sharing their substance treatment information.

Objectives

  • Identify core concepts associated with protecting health information
  • Discuss the challenges and benefits of providing this information to clients
  • Practice a step-wise process for discussing concepts of privacy and consenting to share treatment information

Who Should Attend

People working within Peer Recovery Settings, including:

  • Other supportive service staff
  • Peer recovery coaches
  • Managers
  • Program administrators
  • Community health workers
